2008 Annual International Conference
March 27-30, 2008
University of Washington, Seattle
Sustainable Engineering and Global Health

EWB-USA’s 2008 Annual International Conference brings together dedicated and innovative people to create a collective sense of purpose and possibility and to focus on the connections between Global Health, Community Needs and Sustainable Engineering Practices.

This event will highlight the uniqueness of EWB-USA partnerships by talking about these connections, their affect on each other, and what it takes to successfully improve global health through sustainable engineering practices.  We will hear and share first-hand experiences about on-going projects to answer such questions as:

  • What exactly is Global Health?  Are we talking clean water, eradication of disease, access to health care, or elimination of poverty?  Or, all of the above?
  • What exactly is the responsibility of an EWB-USA project to global health?
  • How does sustainable engineering affect the health of the community?
  • Why are EWB-USA projects unique in their approach?   What have we learned that worked, or that didn’t?
  • How do we incorporate a vision of global health into the relationship we build with the host community and therefore, into the EWB-USA projects?

Attendees will learn how to distinguish between “vision” and “reality” in creating more effective and relevant solutions toward the development of healthy and secure communities.   Sessions will concentrate on specific applications and programs for future planning of projects and partnerships.  The emphasis will be on using our strengths in transferring knowledge and skills to maximize sustainable results and broaden the opportunity for successful, meaningful and long-term collaborations.
