Useful Information at the University of Washington
· No smoking inside University of Washington buildings or within 25 feet of building except for designated smoking areas.
· Cell phones must be off while in lecture halls. Please be considerate to the other conference attendees.
· There is wireless internet provided on the University of Washington campus. Attendees will be given an access code when they arrive at the conference. The wireless code can be used at most computers across the campus.
· There is an additional Designed WIFI Coverage Area from 40th to 47th on University Way NE for your convenience. Various coffee shops on University Way Ne between 40th and 47th Ave. have wireless internet. Espresso Roma, Café Allegro, and Café on the Ave are just a few.
· Recycle as much as possible. Sustainability is at the core of Engineers without Borders.
· Respect the University and University property. Clean up before leaving a room.
· Parking is free on campus Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. Apart from these times, you cannot park without a permit. There is a paid parking garage under the Henry Art Gallery. Attendees are encouraged to use more environmentally friendly modes of transportation such as walking and riding the Metro bus system.
· The Metro bus transit system is the best way to travel around Seattle. The fastest buses downtown are the 71, 72, and 73 which runs on University Way NE and Campus Parkway. During the day the buses run through the tunnel downtown under 3rd avenue, and above ground during the evening and night. There are entrances to the tunnel at various places along 3rd avenue. The transit website below is very helpful in planning trips in Seattle.
· In case of emergency, attendees can dial 911 from any campus phone. There are also emergency beacons around campus through which to alert the police. The University of Washington police department number is 206-543-9331. The University of Washington Medical Center number is 206-598-3300.
· If any other difficulties arise, please speak to a conference volunteer. They will be more than willing to help.
