"This year's conference theme "Sustainable Engineering and Global Health" explores two topics that have been rarely considered simultaneously in community project planning. Yet, both topics are interrelated and cannot be separated when developing healthy, peaceful, and sustainable communities. Engineers need to know about health conditions in order to select appropriate and sustainable solutions. Likewise, the success of long lasting health community programs requires basic infrastructure that uses local skills and materials, meets basic needs, and paves the way for a better future for community members. I look forward to the questions, discussions and ideas that will come out of our next conference and to seeing how it will improve EWB-USA's mission toward sustainable community development."

”The engineering profession has long been dedicated to improving global health, yet today there are 1.2 billion people on the planet who lack clean drinking water and 2.4 billion people who lack basic sanitation. This year our 2008 Engineers Without Borders-USA conference leaders have invited global health professionals and pace-setting non-governmental organizations to shape creative and synergistic breakthrough solutions to close this huge human services gap. We applaud EWB-USA and all the participants for their leadership."

“EWB-USA offers a platform for young engineers to apply their engineering skills towards their growing interest in serving the community at large in philantropic ways. This generational shift in concerns is very apparent and important as we struggle to encourage more young people to consider engineering as profession. EWB-USA has played a significant role in increasing the awareness of the primary role that engineering and science plays in addressing the social and health needs of population stressed world. For these reasons, GeoEngineers is a proud supporter of EWB-USA.”
