Engineers Without Borders – USA
Education Board
The Education Board was established to examine, develop, and encourage educational initiatives to enhance the organization and provide more value to its members and the communities we serve.
PRE-COLLEGE (K-12)
We have recently started a pre-college program under the management of JETS . This program provides lesson plans for teachers and design challenges for students.
The lesson plans are based on current EWB-USA projects and intended to give a teacher real life examples of the technical needs of developing communities and the social implications.
The design challenges are for individual students or a team of students and intend to provide an in-depth examination of a communities needs. They may done as part of the science fair project or submitted to JETS & EWB-USA for review.
Official EWB-USA Pre-College Chapters may also be established under the following guidelines:
1. Completion of formal Student Chapter Application.
2. Agreement of understanding between EWB-USA and the school administration.
3. Availability of a teacher willing to provide oversight of the chapter .
4. Sponsorship of the chapter by a professional and/or university chapter willing to provide mentorship and guidance. Any fees for the pre-college chapter are included it the fees paid by sponsoring chapter. No additional fees are required.
Our first High School chapter is Westlake High in Atlanta, GA that has been working with the United African Alliance Community Center. It was developed under the guidance of Adam Christensen.
One of our board members, Christina Ho has developed materials for the Girl Scouts.
Many EWB-USA chapters have relationships with local schools which is encouraged. Chapters are encouraged to make use of the above resources.
