JOINING AN EWB-USA PROJECT
EWB-USA projects are not just for engineers, they are for all professionals and students. We are particularly interested in involving health professionals, journalists, teachers, business people and people with different cultural backgrounds and cultural knowledge into our projects in addition to engineers.
All EWB-USA projects are designed and planned by EWB-USA chapters, and the chapters manage who travels, engineers, fundraises, or helps with the projects in general. If you are interested in getting involved with a project, we recommend the following:
1) Contacting a chapter near where you live to see how to get involved
2) Taking a look at our projects to determine what projects interest you the most, and then contacting the chapter associated with that project.
EWB-USA reviews all technical, logistical, cultural and economic aspects of the projects prior to the assessment or implementation of the design. We also review projects for their appropriateness with regard to our mission. EWB-USA does not assign individuals to projects, we are instead the means for individuals to become involved with a chapter's projects.
Please see our Project Process page for an overview of the EWB-USA project process.
EWB-USA promotes a long term commitment to and an adoption of the community or community's in the region. Usually there is more to be done in a community than the initial project, and often the implementation trips are used as assessment trips for the next phase of a project. The repeated trips to a community or area helps to ensure that past projects are functioning properly and builds a friendship between the community and the chapter.
