SENIOR DESIGN PROJECTS

EWB-USA projects provide a wealth of resources and opportunities for students and faculty looking for project ideas for Senior Design (capstone) classes, Engineering Projects classes, and Independent Studies. Our projects often require the development of appropriate and sustainable technologies and the design of systems and solutions that could be implemented in small developing communities worldwide.

Selecting an EWB-USA project for a Senior Design class often exposes students to a wide range of real-life engineering situations from concept to implementation. Such exposure matches well the recommendations for general engineering education suggested in the ASCE Body of Knowledge for the 21st Century and by ABET (criteria 3 and 4).

There are two ways to get involved with an EWB-USA senior design projects:

1) Your chapter has an on-going EWB-USA project:

If your school has a chapter that has an active EWB-USA project, then you can approach that chapter to see how you can best fit into the project and then take this on as a senior design project or an independent study with a professor on your campus.  Senior Design Projects can span over one or two semesters.

2) EWB-USA Research Projects:

Students can review the Research Topics provided by EWB-USA and choose one to work on for the school year. EWB-USA asks for the students to submit a report at the end of the semester so that we can see the progress that it being made and share that with other chapters.

INDEPENDENT STUDIES

Many EWB-USA projects can serve as semester-long independent studies or engineering technical electives. This must be approved by each school and student advisor.
