Donor-Advised Fund

A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is like a charitable investment account for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about, including Engineers Without Borders USA. There are many charitable sponsor DAF organizations out there and when you contribute cash, securities, and other assets to your donor-advised fund that is set up through that sponsor, you are usually eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Then those funds can be invested for tax-free growth. When you desire, you can then recommend grants to EWB-USA!

How Can I Support EWB-USA Through My DAF?

We’ve made it easy to initiate your grant recommendation. If you have an account at a charitable sponsor, search for Engineers Without Borders USA, Federal EIN# 84-1589324 and determine the amount, timing, and any acknowledgement desired.

--------IMPORTANT TO KNOW--------

  • When a donation comes to EWB-USA through a DAF, because your charitable donation is actually to the sponsoring organization, you will not get a tax-deductible receipt from EWB-USA.
  • We would love to send you an acknowledgement of your gift recommendation through your DAF, but likely may need your address/contact information if not already on file, as your DAF charitable sponsor may not pass along. Please send us an email to donate@ewb-usa.org to let us know!

What About Planned Giving Through My DAF?

You can incorporate your donor-advised fund into estate planning by making a bequest in your will to the DAF sponsor or by making the sponsor a beneficiary of a retirement plan, life insurance policy or charitable trust. By leaving instructions with the DAF sponsor, you can support multiple charities, including EWB-USA, with one bequest. These gifts may also help reduce or eliminate the estate tax burden!

Many sponsoring organizations also enable you to create a succession plan for your donor-advised fund—allowing you to pass the remaining funds in your account on to your heirs or your favorite charities. Sponsoring organizations handle succession differently, so we encourage you to contact them for specifics.
