Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA) creates local impact through our programming with Community Engineering Corps (CECorps). We work to build a future where everyone has access to critical infrastructure for thriving communities and opportunities. Founded in 2014, CECorps leverages an extensive volunteer network to provide pro-bono engineering and consulting services in partnership with communities throughout the U.S., its Territories, and Tribal Entities to address infrastructure issues and inequities.

COMMUNITY-DRIVEN Infrastructure Solutions
60 Projects
25 US States and Territories
366 Lifetime Communities Engaged
Around the United States, many communities don’t have the resources needed to address pressing infrastructure challenges that impact their day to day lives. Even when grant funding is available, many struggle to obtain it without engineering experts in their corner to guide them. That’s where Community Engineering Corps comes in.
Through CECorps we’re actively partnering with communities to co-create resilient solutions to their critical infrastructure issues. Our projects are crafted to last—each one strengthening community infrastructure and empowering residents for generations to come.
Together, we are creating a world where communities lead, where resilience is built into every system, and where partnerships foster a future of hope, dignity, and strength.
Working to support communities
“Community” broadly encompasses many people, groups, and organizations contributing to a community’s well-being. This could include municipalities, utility companies, nonprofits, or well-organized groups making change. EWB-USA, through Community Engineering Corps welcomes applications from any underserved or overburdened community looking for engineering assistance.
How we help. A community or organization identifies a need for engineering or technical consulting services yet cannot access traditional for-hire consultancy options. If the request is a fit for our expertise, our CECorps program provides essential services to navigating regulatory compliance, securing necessary funding, or overcoming other barriers to successful project implementation.
Our work focuses primarily on the following project types:
Wastewater
Wastewater projects may evaluate sewer and treatment plants for centralized or decentralized systems, address compliance issues, or develop engineering reports.
Our Services
Advisory
Provide engineering expert advice and feedback on how to improve, repair and manage infrastructure systems in place.
Preliminary Engineering Reports
Develop a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) that outlines alternatives solutions and costs of infrastructure improvement.
Pre-Design
Develop conceptual/preliminary engineering designs (appx 30% designs depending on the size of the project) to be utilized for funding opportunities.
Analysis and assessment
Review of existing infrastructure conditions or existing designs that could benefit from additional expertise, including feasibility studies.
cost estimate
Provide an engineering and/or construction cost estimate for infrastructure improvements.
training and knowledge transfer
Provide training and documents to increase engineering, operation, and maintenance knowledge.

ARE YOU A COMMUNITY
We accept applications form community-based organizations that have demostrated need in one or more of our six project types.
