Houston, TX — [November 5, 2025] — The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and its global humanitarian program, Geoscientists Without Borders® (GWB), have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA) to collaborate on initiatives that use applied geoscience and engineering expertise to address challenges faced by communities- worldwide.

This agreement formalizes a shared commitment to use science and technology to improve lives through sustainable, community-based solutions — from expanding access to clean water and supporting disaster risk reduction to mitigating environmental risks and strengthening local resilience.

“This partnership amplifies the reach and impact of both organizations,”

Said Annabella Betancourt, Managing Director of Programs for SEG. “By connecting geoscientists and engineers in the field, we can deliver innovative, data-driven solutions to communities where they are needed most.”

Under the MOU, SEG’s GWB program and EWB-USA will work together to identify and implement collaborative projects, facilitate volunteer participation, and share training and technical expertise. Both organizations will also explore opportunities for joint outreach and awareness campaigns that promote sustainable development and the responsible use of geoscience and engineering practices.

"At EWB-USA, we know that technical solutions only matter when they’re grounded in community needs and built for long-term impact. This partnership merges complementary technical disciplines—engineering and geoscience—to expand our ability to address complex development challenges. Together with SEG, we are advancing integrated solutions for water access, environmental risk mitigation, and sustainable infrastructure design, while also investing in local capacity to ensure long-term outcomes." - Melissa Montgomery, EWB-USA Chief Programs Officer
